Talwalkars, 'SUCKS BEYOND BELIEF'

Never trust Talwalkars...NEVER, NEVER, NEVER.

Humiliating, Horrible, Horrendous, Hopeless, Harrowing ...are a few words to describe my experience at the Talwalkars branches in Bangalore. It was even worse trying to contact their Bombay offices for respite.

Here goes my Harrowing Story :
I transferred a membership from a friend who was moving abroad that had a membership in the Bangalore , Sadashiva Nagar Branch of Talwalkars. There was close to about 10 months of membership left as of the day of the membership's transfer from him to me.
When transferring, they made me pay a registration fee of Rs.1337 and didnt tell me when the membership was expiring or any anything about the membership guidelines or give me any material about their policies. They just wrote on the transfer note (Pic attached below) that one year's membership has been transferred. Additionally, the person who transferred the membership in their offices went a step ahead and told me that I can use the block of 10 remaining months any time at any Talwalkars location. And here's my TROUBULOGUE with the PATHETIC Talwalkars:

~Nov 09th 2006 ~
Tranfer the membership from my friend to me. I pay Talwalkars Rs.1337 to transfer to membership to me , and my friend the rest of the money for the membership.


~Apr 21st 2007 ~
I call the Sadashiva Nagar gym to start my membership of the remaining 10 months in the Ulsoor branch which is closer to my place in Indira Nagar. I am put through to this dude Vishal in their offie who says membership cant be transferred and that nothing is possible but for using the gym at the Sadashiva Nagar Gym which is 10 Miles from my house . He also tells me that my memberhsip is to expire in June, which had nothing to do against what they told me that I can start the remaining 10 month block whenever I wished to when I was transferring the membership.
When I asked the managers this Vishal dude says she is not available and that they cant give me her number.

~Apr 23rd~ I called back again , Shraddha answers the call, and she is not able to either connect me with the manager and say it is a POLICY NOT TO GIVE OUT THE MANAGERS NUMBER TO THE CUSTOMERS TO CONTACT.

~Apr 24th~
Called them 3 times that day, these guys names Keshav & Ravindra answer and say they cant help me reach the manager.
This Guy Ravindra SAYS THERE ISNT MUCH ELSE THEY CAN DO, AND THAT I SHOULD GO JOIN ANOTHER GYM IF I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THEM OR THEIR POLICIES Rachel - 98452-40267

~Apr 25th~ I call their Jayanagar Branch 3 times @ 080 -26631686, This lady named Vimala, answers the call. Another Gentleman, who after much insisting that he cant give me the Bangalore Head (Rachel's) number, put me on hold, reached their Bangalore Head (Rachel) on the phone and gave me her number.

~Apr 25th ~
Finally after 8 calls, 5 days, and just the start of my humiliating experience, got through to Rachel (Bangalore Head) , she says she cant do much. But to use my membership at Ulsoor instead of Sadashiv Nagar (where i got the membership transferred from), I should be paying the Rs. 6500 difference and use it before the end of june. Which meant I would be shelling out an additional Rs6,500 exclusive of the Rs.13,500 that I paid.


~ May 17th ~
I called Rachel (evening @ 1700, the call wasn’t answered)


~ May 18th ~ I called Rachel Rachel (Set up a meeting for the 26th @ 11 in SS Ngr)

~ May 25th ~ Sarla called from Talwalkars (+91-80-4113 8239) saying Rachel cant make it to the meeting and needs to reschedule.

~ May 23th ~ Sarla calls back saying Rachel will call back. This never happened.

~ Sept 28th ~ Spoke to Vidya, a lady at the Jayanagar branch through a friend who knew her , Vidya said Rachel (Bangalore Head)would be calling me.

~ Sept 29th ~ Rachel (Bangalore Head) called to ask if I could go to Talwalkars Ulsoor branch to schedule a meeting with the manager there, I said I will be out of town and that she cal call me on the 3rd of Oct.

~ Oct 03rd ~
Rachel (Bangalore Head) as usual did not call back as usual. They advised I talk to Girish Nayak who is supposedly the person to talk to in Talwalkars for these problems. I got busy and couldn’t call.


~ Oct 10th ~
Called Talwalkars Bombay at +91 22 6612 6300 to talk to customer service about Bangalore, Gita answered and said she would call me back in 5-10 Mins this was @ 11:55 am.
Waited for 25 Minutes and called back, the call got disconnected without being answered 5 times, and they say they don’t have a customer service section, the receptionist wanted me to tell her the problem and that she would get it across. I asked her to connect me to the corporate marketing manager, She was not able to as her systems wasn’t working. I almost had to plead with her for the the corporate marketing manager's name & number which she finally relented on me, which were 022-66126380 ~ Adarsh Nigam VP Marketing. Adarsh (VP Marketing) heard all that I had to say and says “ I will not promise you a time, but even if the answer is that we don’t have anything that we can do, I will call you back”. { I wonder what the hell that meant, basically what he was saying is I heard you out, There isnt much I can do for you, I will update you on how screwed up status of the problem anyway.}

~Oct 17th ~
I called Talwalkars (Adarsh, VP Marketing) at 022-66126380, He wasn’t available at his phone, pressed * to reach the operator, asked the person who answered the call for Adarsh’s cell number and got transferred and put on wait for 3 minutes and the operator hung up on me saying Adarsh is out.


~Oct 17th ~ I called back, told them they put me on wait and hung upon me. I called back and asked for Adarsh’s number… The Lady Gita asks me to call back the next day @ 10:30.

~Oct 17th ~
Called Vimala – (@ the Bangalore Jayanagar branch) trying to vent out… she says a JP Ngr branch is starting up and that she’d call back next weekend with some answer.

~Oct 18th ~ Called Adarsh’s Office Number @ 10:50, The Receptionist transfers me to his answering, and I get back to her and ask her his number. Then she finally gives it: 98201-00306. Adarsh (VP Mktg) says the managers from Bangalore were supposed to back to me on email, I said "I didn’t get it", he said "they were supposed to", I repeated "I didn’t", He says "I heard it". I ask Is there a time line? He says tomorrow. I told him that I would get back to him tomorrow if needed.

~Oct 19th ~ Called Adarsh @ his direct office number and on his cell, he wasn’t available, I left a message asking letting him know that I was waiting for a reply from their Bangalore branch, The answering system cut me off half way through my message.

~Oct 20th ~ Called Adarsh @ his office number 022-66126380, he answered and said Talwalkars was trying to reach me the day before 20thish but my phone wasn’t reachable. He said he didn’t have my email to keep me in the loop. (He should have realized that before he said his people would email me). It was a very RUDE tone he spoke to me in, When I asked what the company was trying to do, he says “I am from the Operations and I don’t want to involve in what and how the branches worked”. He also said “the branch will get back to me”...in a rude tone…I sensed a lot of avoidance and disrespect in the tone.

~Oct 22th ~ Adarsh (VP Mktg) writes me the following Email:
Dear Mr Raju Thank you for your feedback regarding your membership; my colleague Mr Sanjay Nadkarni would get in touch with you shortly to resolve this issue. We look forward to a long term relationship with Talwalkars. Regards Adarsh Nigam Mr Raju: Phone Number Mr Nadkarni: Phone number.

I never heard nor spoke to this guy named Nadkarni who was mentioned in the mail from the VP Mktg.

~Oct 4th week ~ The Bangalore center head (Rachel) calls me for a meeting. We schedule it for the 1st week of november.

~Nov 1st week ~ We meet up as scheduled. What she has to offer me as a final offer is:
  • She agrees that her office screwed up on the membership transfer process.
  • She offers me 5 months membership @ the ulsoor branch, instead of the 10 months I paid for at the sadashiv Nagar Branch (BTW, It is more expensive to get a membership in Sadashiv Nagar than in Ulsoor)
    • The rationalization for the 5 months offer was that I supposedly called them 5 months before my membership expired.
  • I was almost made to feel that they were bestowing upon me a divine grant, her tone sounded as if they were really feeling forry for the effort I put in and that they were throwing mercy on me in offering this.
  • To add to this she says "It wont make any difference what so ever even if you complain to the head office any more& that this is the final offer".
  • I tell her I will let her know in a weeks time.


~Nov 2nd week ~ Not being able to let go of my self respect for the rude tone on which I was given the final offer and also believing that the final offer was was not good enough for all that I went through. I declined it.


Never trust Talwalkars...NEVER, NEVER, NEVER.

Sounds like most gyms in Bangalore. Like Chisel gives out an out-of-date price list and inaccurate class schedules. The staff seems unconcerned and refuse to give out any contact info for owners or head offices when you have a complaint. Have you found a gym with better customer service? I'd like to join it.

Talwalkar's have a lousy reputation all over the place. They are truly unprofessional, and think they're here to stay. I wish the Indian Government system was more credible and would protect it's citizens from such sh**ty con-jobs.

If you're looking for redressal consider approaching the local consumer guidance council in your area. These are known to be very effective.

I agree with what the 2nd anonymous comment you received. Talwalkar's does have a lousy reputation, and they are unprofessional. I also wish the Indian Government could look out more for their people. I know of a great program for mom's and everybody who wants to lose their stomach, I will make sure they never go to Talwalkar's. I hope you find a much better gym.

Talwalkar's vasant vihar gym in Delhi is a total rip-off. I joined recently for Rs 17,500 for 6 months and now they are offering an 18,000 per year price special. They were signing up people at 25,000 for a year till yesterday with no information on the impending discount. All pleas for a rebate have fallen on deaf ears.

The front staff charged me Rs 5000 for a month , some time back and issued no receipt and did not enter it in the computer system (pocketed the money). They will do anything to make a fast buck..I dont know if the management in Pune or Mumbai is aware that the staff here signs on people for a month or two on verbal basis and does not log them into the system..when the customer asks for a receipt they are brushed away with statements like "Its ok", "you dont need the receipt"..

You are better off joining a local colony gymn instead of these unprofessonal people..the staff is not helpful..its too crowded in the evenings..and the overall environment is unpleasant..


If you say that you follow international practices follow international ethics as well..dont make an idiot of your exisiting consumers by offering a 50% discount to new members and not pass on the advantage to existing customers..

keep up with this attitude and no one will stick with your gymn..you will have no customer loyalty..at least i have sworn not to renew my membership..

They charge nearly 20000 per annum on top of that they are the worst gym ever and run by trainers who think they are GOD.

The trainers are the most ill behaved people you have ever encountered,their problem is they think they know all but this is not the case,they will use all possible means and filthy language to force you to opt for a personal trainer and if one wants to train on his own his/her life is made a living hell.BLOODY FUCKING ILLITTERATE BASTARDS THESE TRAINERS who are fucking rotten ass politicians.. MAY YOU ALL REST IN PEACE BITCHES

Professionalism apart, these pathetic wanna be corporates should be dragged to consumer court for misleading & manipulating consumers. U were sharp enough to ask questions, most blindly accept da shit they say.

p.s- i did join talwalkars back in 2006-07 in Navi Mumbai, where i had to shell out 10k for only gym (without cardio....wtf). If tht was not enough i had some half witted DR. prescribing me protein powder. as a medicinal student this is unacceptable.

God.I joined Talwalkars in 2002.I paid 20,000 to them.I could not go because of my back ache.Nobody bothered to call me nor did I know I could freeze my membership.Every time I meet them ,they say nothing can be done.And after looking at your experience I think I should not even try.

Everybody has different different experiences about Talwalkars. Mine was Superb. ...

I'm from Pune. I have been to Talwalkars more than 4 years. Our all group of 8 people is in Talwalkars. They are really very very good at customer services and their staff is also very helpful and having expert knowledge in health & fitness.

everybody should make proper inquiry about the staff, fees, schedules, etc things. So you will never get any bad experiences.

I know the blog owner may be not publish my Comment. but still Truth is Truth.

not necessarily so : I am having a great experience with Talwalkar's in Chennai as well.

I think for once mr. sriram : you need to take a look at what you are using this tool for .
1) I am not sure how many of these comments are actually worth talking about coz Indian Blogging , of late, seems to take the tone of a "garbage truck" hitting bumpers and spewing around.

2) for most part of it I can "safely" say : that MOST of the people blogging here : are not spending as much time in the gym working out ( which should be the aim in the first place). trashing someones reputation is very indian. so is "sounding rude"/ I am not sure how patient and polite ( and this is not the no. of times you have to call) you were when you talked to Talwalkars.
3) I worked outta Bangalore for 10 years and to be honest if you find the cosmopolitan treatment meted out to you there as "inexcusable" i suggest you try other places where this gym has the facility. we are still in india where customer service reps talking to North america and Europe haven't got their grammar and accent right. And you expect people from talwalkars trained locally and attempting to do their best to talk kings english and give you a 7 start treatment ?
and at one quarter the price of that of what you pay for in gyms like chisel and the f gym? I think you need to get your head on the level first!
I am sure if this was Dum Phukt Jolly Naboobs : you would be saying they dont know how to cook ( you yourself being a novice to tandoor).
4) I dont understand : you have all the time to buy an extra drink : but are not interested in getting fit and spending a little more on it for the same reason? I am sure people like you cannot commit to any level of fitness or physical excercise as you dont have the discipline to. as if , if they were to offer you a FREE membership for 3 months: you are gonna attempt to six pack yourself ( which I did thanks to them) or loose your flab!

Post that EXPERIENCE with Talwalkars, I have run kilometers longer than I could ever run a treadmill in my life, have had the best health without working out in Gym's TRYING TO IMPRESS women, GETTING A FRESH WHIFF OF AIR at 6 in the morning enjoying the sun-raises and not waking up to smelling the recirculated air-conditioned deodorant.

Like you say, with all due respect. Your opinion is yours and the loss of my money and time is my problem.

So yeah, instead of complaining about Indians in India providing horrendous customer service...my be someone should try not to suck up to Rachel's offering a doggie snacks pacifying customers to their obvious screwup's and stand up to their own dignity and demand/fight for what they paid.

BTW,these guys are running a so called 'Valentine's day offer' during this time in Hyderabad(Dunno how the hell it connects to fitness! A shabby promotion policy always has a story to tell!)
So I was about to join them. Just decided to read some reviews. And Thank God I did!

When will Indian corporates learn the essence of customer service, I wonder. We all have had so many ill experiences while haggling with phone / email complaints. The tendency here is that - "Bas, kisi tarah customer ko Ch****a bana kar bech do, Baaki dekh lenge"

They don't understand what financial value a loyal customer brings (m taking even the worst case - a company thinking only about financial value and not long term business equity).

And yeah...there are always some retards like this thing Raj. They really are the frustrated lot who have been suppressed n crushed (n will continue to be) through out their life. You give them a chance to speak n po(o)p - it all spills outta their mouth. Of course, its sans sense!

Leaving that crap aside, thanks to all for valuable inputs. Will share with my friends.

I guess, the BIG "CH**TH" SRIRAM was given a free hump membership at Chennai Branch, i ve been a member at Adayar branch for 2 years, and my experiences totally reflect your's. The trainers are total illiterates and i have never seen male trainers massaging the lady members on the name of stretchs. " It happens" only at talwalkars. And by the way "C" Sriram, i have been into fitness for 14 years and tried the gyms from San Diego-Mumbai-Chennai-Dubai. BUt, let me admit, Talwalkars is unique, they even ask their trainers to collect money from the members on the name of "personalized training" for their salaries, if you are interested to know.

Kudos to you Sriram!!!..Couldnt have written it better...Had gone through smthg similar and its only when I read your account did I realize that talwalkars treatment of their members in this shitty manner is more a RULE than an exception....They think all customers r to be fleeced and dont tk any action wn their staff tries to fleece t members...I think their staff is TRAINED to be rude to members....and the trainers!!!...OMG!!...who died and made them King??...they r rude, patronizing and think they have a free licence to insult t clients....As for this guy Raj, I think thats Talwalkars pathetic attempt to use one of their own to discredit u...dont pay attn ppl...atlst sriram has t guts to reveal himslf...Raj! If u hv t balls why dont u do t same..... PPl please never ever join Talwalkars.....

Finally got a place to relieve the frustration Pune Talwalkar gave me...

I joined Viman nagar Pune Talwalkar's gym in nov 2010, but couldn't sustain due to licherious gym instructors(eyeing on every girl) , bloody thinking themselves as Arnold.
Instructors dont know anything about fitness.
No as such great facilities, no Great machines still charging such a high price.

they are f**kin on the name of fitness.

I started gym about two months ago and my friends suggested that I go to Talwalkers, because it was definitely a bigger name...
Now reading these instances, I am glad I didn't do that and instead joined this very nice gym with nice, friendly co-operating staff.

I decided to join gym some few months back and thought of joining talwalkar As it was nearby and also shared good reputation in my frz circle. It's been six months dat I have joined and to my dismay in these months I have 3 instances of my belongings being stolen in and outside the gym . First it was my nokia e71 cellphone and my wallet containing few hundred rupees and driving license and a debit card . First I thought may be It was my mistake so I did not complained the matter to d authority .next I lost my reebok shoes inside my gym locker few days back . The story did not ended here and today I lost my new pair of adidas shoes outside the gym gate . Whenever I give a complain they bluntly give a reply dat they will enquire . Guys I already had a loss of 25-30000 . Don't know what to do . Simply say keep your belongings at ur own custody rather than at their behest . They cannot be trusted

Most of these gym guys are an unprofessional bunch. Talwalkars is the biggest cheater of the lot. All their schemes are for fleecing hard earned money from the consumers. Never should one go near any of these rouges.

..just happened to browse about reviews for Talwalkars. I had been contacted by this gym 6 years back when I was in Kolkata. I have returned again a week back from US and want to join a gym here. I was considering T's but then this blog came up. I will have to take a decision b/w T and the Gold Gym and certainly this blog will have some effect on that. Sriram...kudos for narrating in details how ur torment went though I will probabely also want to believe that not everything said by u was in a warm/tender tone. This is in regards to a comment I noticed in the blog from a certain Raj...well, my opinion would b (if its at all welcome)is certain decorum is surely required but then how far can we tolerate bad customer service!!!Customers pay the bucks and within the limits of the franchise policy, they require to b settled at the earliest and in the most convenient manner. However, I do agree with the same person though about the amount of filth generated in trying to prove that T's r a trash place to attend. Facts rather than swear words r less likely to give any information which is exactly why people like me view these blog sites....overall, Thanks, I will b wary while making my decision.

The ulsoor branch , treadmill section is like a cowshed. U need lot of good ventilation n space when ur body is under hypermetabolic state. The machines r some locally manufactured or refurbished matrix. They r utterly useless n pathetic. This can be detrimental to ur health. . . .Yes guys u need to go through proper channel, consumer redressal n give them a strong reply. Call once or twice to any firm to settle ur problem or else go to the consumer forum.

I have worked out with talwalkars mangalore and they are just excellent. fitness is still un organised industry so you may not find people speaking english and highly intellectual, and if you feel you will get any service better than talwalkars, then best of luck with that.

this complain is regarding the alipore talwarkar gym they have a thourouly unprofessional attitude the managment encorages staff to use facebook during peak hrs they have no respect for consumers who don't take prep all the staff has accses to the restroom hence no hygine and is kept utterlydirty the managment withstand and supports misbehaviour of the ladies head instructor momita and fights with the client on her behalf she uses slang langauge and dominates over her juniors she watches teleserials disturbing others and if anybody objects she calls them mad the owners are not bothered the consumers have no where to go to complain against the manager as it is a franchise and mumbai head quar tars cannot do anything about it its a shame that talwarkars is poening many branches and franchises but no facilites for consumer complaints

i paid 20000 for there 1yr scheme. Told me they would return it after 1yr fully...
i have been calling them since 7 months for the return...
they r just not doing anything...

I am so glad you guys shared your experiences. I was about to pay my membership fee today, but I though 'oh! wait. I did not do my online research like usually, and said I will come back net week :)'
It is a shame our country does not have fair trade standards, if we did these gold digging A** H***** would be shut long ago and donno how many peoples hard earned money would be spent wisely elsewhere.
With all the empathy as to how many people were troubled and just because I donot encourage such shitty standards I will NOT join Talwalkars ever.

I run dental clinic just opposite talwalkars ulhasnagar....clients of gym park purposely in front of glow board of my clinic hence many of patients couldn't find my clinic...manager of gym just ignored my request
Its very annoying. Its very hurtful as I was member of this gym for one year. And got ignore

Talwalker's GYM - JUBILEE HILLS HYDERABAD.

With open mind i joined this GYM last month to reach my fitness goals.I was not hopeful of a customer friendly environment from day 1 and so I only took up 1 MONTH membership+ PersonalTraining.

So after a month just 1 day before my monthly membership expires i was told by my trainer th at i would need to renew my membership. The deal which i was offered was a 3 months package which i could pay on monthly basis.

On the day of renewal i had to travel out of station and so I told the trainer that i would come back and renew it or asked him about online renewal.

After couple of hours I got a call from a Manager that i would need to RENEW my membership and if I do not do it i would be in trouble n all???? First impression was i was being pressured - Secondly bthis manager tells me that I can renew my membership online and so that same day after travelling n reaching my home town e back to i try to renew but there was no online option to renew.

After which i came back to the GYM and these guys are saying as per our policy you have not your membership has expired and you cannot renew this with the same price.

I told them that i tried to renew online and was not able to do it? and also sent them an email clearly stating that online renewal is not happening.

But still these managers in the GYM were talking NO sense and were again trying to push and force me to renew a 3 months package ??????

WTF ? why would I renew again with a all new price ??? If you want to maintain STRICT POLICIES .....FIRST PLEASE HIRE PROPER MANAGERS N ADMIN STAFF.....AND LEARN TO RESPECT CUSTOMERS....and Do not LOOT money from them.

Talwarkars is nothing but highway robbery.
Customer care says scheme amount is Rs. 9,500/- and franchisee demands Rs. 14,500/-!!! The gyms have horrible equipment and zero maintenance; and the staff behave as though you are a hardcore criminal if you do not opt for a personal trainer. The personal trainers behave as thou they are dictators; and actually push members away so that their students get first chance. If you are on a bench or machine or using weights, the personal trainers will tell you- we will do alternately; if you request the same from the personal trainer, he will tell you- fuck off.
The franchisee does not keep the air-conditioners working (ie only the blower is running not the compressor)
The steam room is a joke.
The showers are a fatal gamble with either ice cold water or burning hot water only.

I just found this thread. We are 2020 and with good gyms like cult fit , talwarkars does not stand a chance anymore.. Karma is a bit** right!!!
